The Paiste Alpha series are considered to be some of the best cymbals when it comes to a balance of sound and price, they sound professional whilst remaining within the budget of most drummer. The 20" Power Ride is a great option from the alpha series if your looking for a powerful ride that can cut through the mix of a band. the alpha series was discontinued in 2017 but used cymbals are still around. They no longer make packs for the alpha series. They were replaced with the 900 series which is another great option if your looking for afforadble cymbals that sound great. It has a bright, clear sound with a strong ping and a defined bell, making it perfect for rock and metal music. Its durability and affordability make it a great choice for drummers of all skill levels. I personally use the power ride in my main kit as it is one of the best cymbals I have ever played in that price range. Because it was discontinued it is considered to be a underrated semi-rare gem and a great option when looking for second hand cymbals.
The Meinl HCS cymbal set is one of the most versatile and accessible beginner cymbal lines available from any brand. While they are by no means professional-grade cymbals, they offer a very affordable option for new drummers who are just getting started. They're made from brass, which is a much cheaper material than the bronze used in higher-end cymbals, and that means they don't have the same warmth, complexity, or durability. However, most beginners won't notice the difference in sound quality, especially when just learning the basics of drumming. The HCS line comes in a wide variety of pre-packaged sets and individual cymbals, with some of the biggest sets including up to 20 different pieces. This makes it easy for beginners to experiment with different sounds and setups without spending a lot of money. The cymbals themselves have a bright and cutting tone, which can help them stand out in a beginner kit, especially in smaller practice spaces or low-volume environments. While more experienced drummers will likely outgrow these quickly, the HCS line is a great way to get started without breaking the bank, and they're perfect for early practice, home recording, or casual jamming.
The Paiste RUDE cymbals are a bold and aggressive line designed specifically for loud, heavy styles like punk, metal, hardcore, and hard rock. They're not made to be subtle or smooth—instead, they're all about raw power, cutting attack, and maximum volume. Made from B8 bronze, the RUDE series is incredibly durable and built to withstand heavy playing without cracking or losing tone. Their unlathed, raw finish gives them a unique look and contributes to their sharp, piercing sound that easily slices through dense mixes and loud guitars. While they definitely aren't the most versatile cymbals and can sound too harsh or trashy for softer genres, that's not what they're made for. If you're a hard-hitting drummer who needs cymbals that can match your intensity and volume, the Paiste RUDE line delivers exactly that, no frills, just power.
